Leading US shareholder advocate Richard Ferlauto, has been appointed as deputy director of policy for the Securities & Exchange Commission’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy (OIEA).

Since 2002 Rich has been director of corporate governance and public pension programs at the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees where he was instrumental in proposing a series of high profile shareholder resolutions on “say on pay” and director nominations. Rich is currently also a member of the PCAOB Investor Advisory Committee and The Conference Board Taskforce on Executive Compensation.

The OIEA provides educational resources to help individual investors make informed financial decisions. Last month, OIEA launched the SEC’s first-ever web site devoted exclusively to investor education providing in-depth information and advice on how to invest wisely, plan for the future and avoid being scammed. The office also works closely with the SEC’s newly formed Investor Advisory Committee.
