Electronic Proxy Message Standard
On 4 May a press conference was held to announce the implementation of the Electronic Proxy Message Standard. The collaboration of Registrars and
Manifest led to the creation of this standard file format, which will make it easier for institutional investors to appoint proxies electronically
rather than by traditional paper based methods.
The benefits of the common file format are:
- Companies will know much earlier in the voting period how the vote is going – voting institutions will be able to send a replacement file as and
when the position changes.
- Institutional shareholders will be more likely to vote and do so earlier as they can lodge votes for all designations on the same file.
- There will be an audit trail.
- Registrars will have far fewer different types of form to process.
The press conference took place at Triton Court (Computershare’s London office) and was chaired by Tom Morrison (in his capacity of Chairman of the
ICSA Registrars’ Group) and Sarah Wilson from Manifest Voting Agency.
