International Corporate Governance Network
Purpose: The
International Corporate Governance Network aims to promote good corporate governance globally. It does this through
principles for companies and investors to adhere to.
Membership: Principally made up of fund managers, estimated to hold assets exceeding $10
trillion, and corporate governance advisers.
Founded: March 1995 in Washington DC
Based: ICGN Secretariat based at the
Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators,
16 Park Crescent, London
Structure: Decision-making is delegated to a a
12-member board of governors.
There are various committees which are formed to consider policy issues, such as
accounting and auditing practices, executive remuneration, shareholder rights
and cross-border voting.

Activities: The ICGN
has become more active in recent years and although its July conference is the
highlight of its activities the organisation also holds other regional events.
The ICGN is also active in contributing to international
corporate governance debates, such as the development of EU and US policy and
the establishment of global accounting standards. Work in these areas is
undertaken by the policy committees and consultation responses are approved by
the board.
