EnvironmentUK performs strongly among sustainable companies
The latest list of the world’s most sustainable companies shows UK businesses lead the way in environmental friendly practices, occupying 24 of the 100 positions.
The Global 100 list, compiled by Canadian magazine Corporate Knights and US research firm Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, was unveiled at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Ranking just below UK companies were those from the US, marking up 19 places, and after that Japan with 13.
Tony Heaps, editor of Corporate Knights, emphasised the financial importance of sustainability: increased environmental scrutiny and regulation, he argued, means trillions of dollars of investment capital will be flowing into companies with a green edge.
Among those UK companies included in the list are: British Airways, BT, Marks & Spencer, Royal Dutch Shell and Scottish & Southern Energy.
