Companies believe market analysts have work to do

Company executives believe analysts are the most effective market influencers on company market value but a survey by accounting firm, RSM International, found most companies do not think they fully understand their business.

The survey of senior executives across Europe found that 85% of them did not think analysts fully understood the fundamentals of their business and 80% of companies did not think their performance is accurately reflected in their share price. Over 80% cited analysts as among the top three market influencers.

Only 10% of the respondents listed corporate responsibility amongst the top three most important factors affecting their investor relations strategy, suggesting this area has some way to go before it really influences investor decisions. The survey also found that about 40% of respondents had a specific strategy for enhancing their market value believing that it is a very important issue.

The survey was conducted among members of the Union of Issuers Quoted in Europe, which is a network of national organisations, during the summer of 2006 and 190 responses were received.
